when i'm driving on the freeway, i usually look at street lamps. i love driving at dusk on the freeway right when the street lamps come on. the night calling the street lamps into duty as they perfectly align for roll call when they light up (during the day, i like to think they're at ease, relaxing like trees as they chill with the birds). the ones i've seen click on white, and gradually glow brighter into a shade of orange. then for whatever reason, the first three tracks of modest mouse's good news play in my head as the lights flick on.

most common kinds of street lamps in hill terms:

1. the v.
2. the half-v.
3. the double wing. like the v, but wider angle.
4. the single wing.
5. the lucky clover leaf. a round of 4 bulbs.
6. the ring. circle of 6 bulbs.
7. the curl. like the single wing, but more curl.

I very rarely get to see the street lamps light up, but it's definately better than watching them fade off after the sun rises when you are half-awake on a road trip. I can definately see the modest mouse, and was never aware there were actually this many different kinds of lights... I thought there was just the classic v, and the occasional 4 bulb clover.
